Resolved Question: Really need some advice about what to do in this situation with my stepdaughter. Very very long....?
I don't really have an unbiased person to ask in this situation, so I will ask all of your opinions! Thanks My stepdaughter is 17. She lives with her mom about 70 miles away. I have been married to her dad since she was 9. Well these last couple of years have been really hard. We bought her a car that she ran out of gas and kept trying to start the engine, which blew the motor and valves. That cost $2000 to fix on top of the $300 car payment, and $200 insurance for her. Its a standard, and she all of the sudden after having it a yr. was having panick attacks driving it, so I took it and we gave her an older car (1998 lincoln) Very good driving car, but she hated it. We are not rich, and we were already out over $8000 on both cars, but I sold the lincoln and bought her a 1999 grand prix. Well then she ran it out of gas. So we put on a new fuel pump. She has a blackberry ($500 we paid for it) which is $170 a month, $200 insurance, and the car payment from the car that I am driving. Now her A/C is out, along with the fuel pump again from running out of gas again and her dad refuses to pay for it because 1. She doesn't have a job and WILL NOT get one (she says she doesn't have the time) 2. She runs back and forth with her boyfriend all the time, and is NEVER home. 3. We have spent over $10,000 on "accidents'' with her cars and phones over the past year and a half. (Ruining engines, and losing phones) We haven't seen her in 6 months. She wont come see us, and when we go down there, she is "busy" Her uncle called us today and told my husband what an awful father he is for letting his daughter drive around with no a/c and then my husband's ex wife called and said what a sorry loser he is for not fixing her car. Its 1500 to fix and the car is only worth $2000. What should we do? If we fix the car, we are bailing her out of yet another thing that was caused by wrecklessness, and if we buy her a new one, its just a vicious circle. She will be 18 in a couple of months. We love her so much, and her mom's family bash us for not helping more. What should we do? My husband runs a ranch and I am a stay at home mom, so we are totally tapped out.
