Resolved Question: I have a speeding ticket in New Jersey, my license is in Texas. Should I pay a higher fine to avoid points?
I can pay less for the fine but I would get 'points.' I'm just not sure if these points will transfer to my Texas Motor Vehicle Report. The NonResident Violator Compact refers to ignoring tickets and having your license suspended, but not the reporting of speeding tickets / points. I'd be willing to pay a few hundred dollars extra to avoid my insurance rates going up, but if NJ doesn't report to TX, I don't see the need. Thanks! mbrcatz below is somewhat incorrect - I can plead guilty to a lesser charge, which would come without points, but with a heftier fine, according to the municipal court lawyers with whom I've spoken.
