Voting Question: Casualty Loss Tax Question?
One of my vehicles suffered an overheated engine which in turn made the vehicle unusable until I replaced the motor, In a Land Rover the engine Replacement cost was in the neighborhood of $6000-7000. I proceeded to remove the vehicle from my insurance and parked in my driveway until I got around to having the motor replace. In the meantime the vehicle suffered storm damage after a thunder storm. Hail dents on hood and roof, 2 broken windows, and a dent on the fender and broken headlight from a falling tree branch. Now with severe body damage and a blown motor I decided it was not worth the investment to have all the damage fixed. Unfortunately it was not covered by insurance. I in turn had an auto hauler come and remove it from my driveway. Since that time 1 month ago, I had someone suggest I may be able to claim a deduction for casualty loss. Is this possible? Thanks

Open Question: Does a business owner have a co-payment when filing against insurance for damages?
My husband works for his father. He owns a tire/oil business. My husband put the wrong oil filter on a car, and supposedly over the weekend, the car's motor blew up. Now, my father in law is saying that he has to either pay the $800 insurance co-payment for the motor through the company, or he has to let him go, this isnt legal is it!?
